When a believer has an unbelieving spouse, Paul says that they should remain married if the unbeliever is willing to do so (1 Cor. 7:12–14).32 Then he adds: But if the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved. God has called you to peace. (1 Cor. 7:15) The most likely interpretation of this verse is that it implies the freedom to obtain a legal divorce and the freedom to marry someone else.
